‘Rigge’ is Old English for ‘Ridge’, which perfectly describes this scarf. Ridge after ridge in varying sizes, created with only knit and purl stitches make up this bulky, yet scrumptiously squishable scarf. This is the perfect TV knit. Once you have the ridge pattern established, you just knit the knits and purl the purls until your scarf is the length you want, then bind off. Larger needles and yarn make this project a pretty quick knit, even though it is about 18” wide (relaxed) and about 78” long. .
As I was working this up, I decided not to stop until the last ball was done, and that’s how I arrived at the finished length. as written, Rigge takes exactly 6 balls of Charisma. If you choose to substitute a different bulky yarn, you can choose to use an exact material amount instead of shooting for 78” long, but keep in mind with a bulky scarf like this, you’ll want it to be no shorter than 70” so you have some room to play with how it’s wrapped around your neck with enough scarf length left to hang nicely. The extra length makes it a perfect fall piece to wear as a stole and ward off the chill and a perfect dead of winter piece to wear as a scarf and block out the cold.
