Ripples Cowl
During this time of being homebound due to COVID-19, Swing Knits® Ripples Cowl was “born.” It is portable, enjoyable, relaxing, works up quickly and addicting! Depending on your speed, it can take about 10 hours to complete. Prototypes were knitted with wool for cold weather and cotton for warm weather. The color combinations are limitless! Now that you’ve probably sorted some of your stash, this can be a fabulous stash buster project! Think of all the friends you’ll delight with one of these cowls for a birthday or for the holidays!
When folded in half and depending on the variegated yarn, one side may have darker colors and the other side lighter colors. Consider that color changes can be manipulated too which makes it wonderfully unique and versatile.
There are endless possibilities to personalize Ripples. For instance applying beads or slightly changing some of the design elements are ways in which to apply your artistic talent.
Two skeins of Schoppel’s Cashmere Zauber had just enough yardage to “eek out” the finished cowl. The two skeins combined equalled approximately 325 yards. The Schoppel, Zauberball Crazy Cotton and Cottonball (doubled) had ample yardage of each.
This pattern calls for markers. They are an aid in keeping track of turns--especially for the German short rows. You’ll see how handy they really are. Some seasoned knitters may simply choose not use all the markers. That’s okay and slightly less time-consuming.
Remember, yarn, needle size, and tension are all factors in achieving approximate gauge. Each prototype’s circumference and height varied slightly 1” to 1.5” using DK or worsted weight yarns.
US #8, 24” or 32” lace point, circular needle is good for a 29” cowl circumference.
The pattern has detailed instructions and information that address the accessories in this pattern as well as techniques with video references.
Bet you will make a bunch of these! Keep your yarn in motion and a smile on your face.
