Rippling River Cowl

The design for this cowl came out of a “Call for Designs” competition that skacel held in 2010. Helen Bingham won that competition with this simple, yet elegant cowl pattern. Unlike most cables, hers are worked against a Stockinette Stitch background, giving the cables the look of rippling currents in a deep river.
Though the original cowl was created for and worked in a much larger yarn, its design is proving to be excellent for lighter-weight yarns as well. In the new gauge, the stitch definition is lovely, and the smaller-sized cowl snuggles up to the neck, showing to full advantage, the lusciously soft llama and super baby alpaca found in these two respective yarns.
