These mitts are knit differently for left and right hands.
There is a thumb gusset.

The pattern has a chart for the cable pattern which is also written out in rows. Special abbreviations are given for the cable crossings.

The mitts can be turned inside out for a different look.
Palms and thumbs are knit in stockinette stitch.
