Rogue is a simple lacy scarf or shawl pattern designed specifically for long color change cake yarns. You need just one cake for a scarf or two for a shawl (subject to size of the cake, of course).

The pattern works great in Aran or DK weight yarn cakes.

It’s easy to adjust the number of pattern repeats for length and rows for width. Instructions are included for making your own alterations.

Gauge:
Gauge is not vitally important for this project, but should come out close
Aran: 14sc and 16 rows is 4 inches
DK: 16 dc and 8 rows is 4 inches

Things to Note:

• This pattern uses a very long starting chain to produce the long stripes. Foundation single crochet should NOT be used in it’s place. However the over-chaining technique can be used to help get the correct count for row 1.
• It’s also worth noting that you should NOT use a larger hook for your starting chain or your first row because you actually want them to be on the tight side.
• When buying self-striping yarn think about how the colors flow. If you need more than one cake/ball try to find ones in which the color changes in one ball flow into the next without having to cut much from either end. Think about which color you want your piece to start and end with.
• The stitch pattern produces a bubbly fabric with lots of texture. Blocking will reduce this slightly. Or, to eliminate it entirely for a perfectly flat fabric, simply stretch the stitches a bit more aggressively when blocking.
