This hat was inspired by the upcoming “Rose City Yarn Crawl” in Portland, OR where Jamieson’s US distributor, Simply Shetland, will be donating several DK yarn packs for this design as door prizes, along with my donated patterns.

Yarn packs are available through my shop, too, in the same colors shown. The one-hat pack comes with 2-25g balls of Mirage + 1-25g ball each of Highland Mist, Wild Violet, Paprika, Blueberry and Pine Forest. There’s also a yarn pack for making two identical hats = same as the one-hat pack, plus a 3rd ball of Mirage.

The Rose Arbor Hat is a close-fitting ladies’ hat knit in 6 colors of DK yarn. The brim’s twisted stitch trellis is capped by bands of Fair Isle roses and leaves that run to the top, forming a crowning blossom. Instructions for knitting an alternate, simple ribbed brim are included (although I think you’ll find the chart and notes for the “trellis” to be friendly and fun.)

Lately, I’ve been listing different needle sizes for those who knit loosely and those who knit tightly. The Ravelry set up doesn’t allow for that, but it has proven very helpful, so here are the full details of what I’m showing on the pattern for needle sizes:

For looser knitters: US #3 / 3.25mm for Trellis; US #2 1/2 / 3.00mm for Main Portion

For tighter knitters: US #4 / 3.50mm for Trellis; US #3 / 3.25mm for Main Portion

If you’d rather work standard ribbing, choose a ribbing needle that’s one size smaller than your Main needle.

Don’t forget to “stop and smell the roses!”
XOXOXOXOX,
Mary Ann
