Säde is Finnish and it means ray of light. The knitting pattern is inspired by the sharp light of the spring.

Säde-poncho is made of two similar rectangular panels. The cast-off edges and the other long sides are joined together. In the corner there is an opening for the neck.

Choose fingering weight or lace weight yarn. Use a bit larger needles than usually to create lacy, openwork pattern. This knitting pattern looks the best when the stitches are loose and the fabric stretches well. I used for Säde alpaca yarn Teetee Alpakka (100% alpaca, 50 g = 166 m) sold by Tekstiiliteollisuus Oy. Any fingering weight alpaca yarn is good and very soft merino wool will also do. Avoid hard and heavy yarns

Stitch-pattern has curving fan-like motive and it looks almost like lace. Though it is not lace in traditional sense of the word. For experienced knitter this is easy pattern to make. The beginners will also succeed, if they don’t panic when the stitch count variates. Remember to hop over the grey squares of the chart. There is no stitch there!
