Saffron Shawl
This pattern is found in The Colorwork Bible and cannot be purchased as an individual download. The book is available for purchase here.
This striking rectangular shawl is the perfect piece to test out your mosaic knitting skills on. Knitting flat back and forth—with only one color at a time—you will get to practice slipping stitches on the right side of the work as well as the wrong side. When choosing colors for this design, keep in mind the importance of color value. Since you’re repeating a relatively small motif over and over again, make sure to pick two colors that have very different values and therefore very strong contrast.

Notes
- This rectangular shawl is worked flat, back and forth.
- Working the mosaic chart the recommended number of times will yield a shawl about 70” (178 cm) long. To shorten or lengthen it, simply change the number of chart repeats.
- You can also change the number of cast-on stitches to work a wider or narrower shawl. If you make changes to the width, be sure to add or subtract multiples of 10 so the total number of stitches cast on is a multiple of 10 stitches plus 3.
ERRATA: On the Saffron Chart, lines 11 & 12, the 7th column over should be colored in as “CC” on both lines of the chart, essentially connecting the flower head to the stem below.
