Saffron the Pelican
Saffron the Pelican is a sweet, friendly bird. She loves to spend her day with friends, frolicking in the sunshine.
Saffron is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Saffron is approx. 16cm tall.
You will need:
- 2.75mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted, 50g in WHITE, less than 50g in other colours
- 8mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
- When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- I’ve used the following yarns: o BLUSH = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 454 Blush Pink o PINK = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 453 Ballet Pink o WHITE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 401 Paper White o BLACK = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 402 Pure Black
- I have used plastic safety eyes but you may choose to embroider the eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
