SAGLAN PULLOVER
A hybrid between saddle shoulder and raglan construction, the Saglan Pullover is a unisex pattern with hints at military styling. The main feature of this design is the flare of the saddle shoulders, which creates a structured silhouette with the flexibility to accommodate individual differences in shoulder width and slope. A highly adaptable pattern designed to suit a variety of figures and stylistic preferences.
There are now two versions of Saglan included in this one purchase: the original DK-Aran weight pattern, and a newer Fingering-Sportweight version. Knit it for any season and enjoy!

NOTES ON YARN SELECTION
Fingering-Sportweight Version:
Choosing a yarn toward the fingering weight end of the weight range will result in a more airy, open fabric. Choosing a yarn toward the sportweight end of the weight range will result in a denser, firmer fabric.
If knitting this for the warmer season, consider a cotton or linen blend yarn, or superwash merino (sock yarn will work as well). If knitting for the coder season, consider a non-superwash wool or alpaca blend. This pattern also works in Nutiden single-stranded.
DK-Aran Version:
Choosing a yarn toward the DK end of the weight range will result in a more airy, open fabric (a woollen spun yarn that can be worked above gauge is recommended if opting for this). Choosing a yarn toward the Aran end of the weight range will result in a denser, firmer fabric.
Another possibility is to combine finer yarns to achieve a DK-Aran weight equivalent. For example:
. unspun wool held double (Nutiden and &Point are better suited for this than Plotulopi, which is too heavy)
. standard fingering weight yarn held double
. standard sport weight yarn, held double
. 1 strand fingering weight yarn, held together with 1 strand sport weight yarn
. 1strand fingering or sport weight yarn, held together with 1 strand lace weight mohair
Note: When combining yarns in this manner, you can use strands of the same colour, or use 2 different colours to achieve a marled effect.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAGLAN & VERSAL?
In many ways, the two pullover patterns are similar.
There are however two main differences:
-
Versal is a standard saddle shoulder design, whereas Saglan is a hybrid between saddle shoulder and raglan construction.
-
Versal’s neckline is shaped with short rows, whereas Saglan’s neckline is shaped with traditional increases.
A more detailed comparison of these two patterns can be found here.
