Salem's Steps
Alternating knits & purls in offset columns create a striking 3-dimensional hat design
Salem’s Steps is a reference to the alternating stair treads used on steep staircases as a space saving measure, particularly in old New England homes. Folklore has it that the stairs were able to confuse witches who needed a clear simple pathway.
Either way you’ve found your path to a fun and speedy hat project!
You will use about 140 yards for the adult size hat so if you opt for our larger ombre Shaniko Worsted you should comfortably get two hats from each ball. Adult (Lg) size will fit up to a 23” head diameter, Teen (Med) size will fit up to a 20” head diameter.
