Salmon Run
#wobember is an online (Instagram) celebration of wool and all things woolly! Part educational, mostly fun, Instagram hashtag month of woolly pictures and information. Why not join in and add your voice to all of the other wool lovers out there! Wear your woollies, post your pictures and share your love.
Wovember was first started in 2011 and is a continuing event every November where by the participants post pictures share information and comment about wool and all the things it is good for – including but not limited to – knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning, stuffing, dyeing and wearing. The posts are based on a prompt sheet, created by @ithoughtiknewhow A new prompt for every day of the month. Oh, the things you can learn and see!
Those of us who already love wool know most of its attributes – it is warm and fuzzy, repels water, is naturally anti-bacterial, is bio degradable, keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. It is sustainable and good for the environment!
This is a free pattern to celebrate #wovember . This hat has been knit with a very woolly fibre from Icelandic sheep. Plotulopi is a worsted weight to Aran weight yarn, an unspun single, Plotulopi is almost a pencil roving, lightweight, strong and very, very woolly. The long guard hairs shed the water from the mists, rains and snow of fall and winter environments. The air pockets warm up from your body heat and this hat will keep you warm even if it gets wet.
You of course, could use any style of worsted weight wool that you like!
Salmon Run is worked in a fair-isle style pattern and celebrates my home and environment, the West Coast of Canada, Vancouver Island. Grey skies, choppy seas and the salmon that run the rivers of the west every October!
Materials; Approx 60m each of 3 colours of plotulopi, dark blue (1932), mid blue (1931), mid grey (1901) and approx. 10 m of nat white (0001), 4.0mm US#6 16 inch circ for ribbing, 5.0mm US #8 16 inch circ and dpn’s for body of hat, markers and the regular notions.
