The Saltwind beanie is a warm, cozy hat worked in two layers for exceptional comfort. With a four-layer brim, it offers extra insulation—perfect for the coldest winter days. A strand of silk-mohair held together with fingering-weight merino creates a soft, luxurious fabric with a beautiful halo, and you can also substitute these two strands with a single strand of DK-weight yarn if you prefer a simpler yarn option.

This beanie is knitted top-down in Stockinette stitch. You begin by working in the round as a tube, shaping the crown at each end before finally folding the inner layer into the outer one to create double thickness. Because the hat is worked from the top down, adjusting the length is simple—you can try it on as you go to make sure the fit is just right. After the crown shaping, the rest of the knitting is wonderfully relaxing, with soothing rounds of Stockinette.

The Saltwind beanie’s striped design makes it perfect for using up odd balls and leftover yarn from your stash. Mix coordinating shades for soft, subtle stripes, or combine bold contrasts for a playful, graphic look. The simple texture lets the colors shine, whether you choose a carefully planned palette or improvise as you go.
