Sam Jumper
This jumper is knitted in pieces and is a super easy pattern to sit and relax with – the back is basically a square!
It’s based on a classic design I created around 20 years ago, which is still a well-loved favourite. But as sometimes happens, the yarn I originally used was discontinued. So I’ve updated the pattern with a current, gorgeous yarn – and it’s perfect.
The Donegal Twists DK brings this design to life, with its colourful little flecks on it’s merino and British wool base.
CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in separate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are drop. The neck edge is picked up and knitted.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing, increasing, cast off. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch seaming and three needle cast off.
YARN
4(5:6:7:7) 100g balls of BRE Donegal Twists DK.
72% Merino & 28% British Wool, 270m/295yds per 100g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4mm.
GAUGE (tension)
20 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm/4ins square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 4mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
I recommend a positive ease of 7-14ins/18-35.5cm at the chest.
