Samhain Sweater
Samhain (SOW-in) is the Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, taking place on the 1st of November. Festivities start the evening before, and are the precursor to modern Halloween celebrations. The uneven stripes of the mosaic slip-stitch pattern featured in this sweater are reminiscent of the rows of a freshly harvested field, when all the crops have been processed and the earth is ready to rest until spring. The Samhain Sweater is a perfect way to celebrate the season’s changing and create something to keep you warm through the cold winter. This pattern features Megs & Co Empire Estate yarn, which is a sturdy Rambouillet wool entirely grown, spun, and dyed in New York State. It’s the perfect yarn to use for a Rhinebeck Sweater if you’re participating in the Hudson Valley Textile Project’s Rhinebeck Sweaters for Good initiative—you can learn more and pledge to knit local here.
