Sand & Sea Baby Blanket
About the Design:
I wanted a baby blanket whose styling was non-traditional, yet derived from a traditional source. My inspiration was an antique block quilt.
I used a wide rib, with single purl stitches to simulate the quilting stitches. I used the tans and blue greens of beach and surf. And, so it was only natural to have a shell edging, which is quickly crocheted.
The squares are very portable and easy to work. And using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn together makes it a quick project, as well – great for that last minute baby shower gift!
Size: 30″ square
Yarn: Brown Sheep Nature Spun, 3.5 oz/245 yd skeins: 6 of N92 Camel, 1 each N93 Latte, N13 Bluff Brown, N76 Antique Turquoise, and N56 Meadow Green
Gauge: (unstretched) 16 sts & 21 rows = 4″ (10cm) in rib patt with 2 strands yarn and size 10 ndls, or size to give gauge, (wet-blocked) 14 sts and 19 rows = 4″
