This sophisticated bonnet marries the classic black-and-white Scottish Sanquhar pattern with the chullu style cap of the Andes. Sanquhar, an ancient town in the hills of southern Scotland, became well known by the early nineteenth century for production of stockings, gloves, and other textiles.

Sanquhar gloves were prized for their ability to firmly hold horse reins in the rain. The alternating pair of squares in this variation is known as Cornet & Drum.

It is distinctive of the Sanquhar family of patterns, which are anchored in an 11-stitch grid or dambrod. As is historically done, you can create larger sizing options by using a larger needle with the same yarn.
