> Sassoun Belt

Sassoun Belt
This wraparound belt was inspired by a pair of socks from Sassoun that I saw on display at the Folk Museum in Yerevan, Armenia. The pattern includes a short essay about the region from which the socks came.
The belt is knit in the round from tip-to-tip and is easily modified to fit any waist size. Gauge is provided but is not critical. Knitting above gauge will result in a wider belt while knitting below gauge will result in a narrower belt.
Yarn production in Armenia from Armenian wool is currently limited. When this belt was designed, I was not able to source naturally dyed, sport weight yarn that was made in Armenia. Instead, I chose to use the natural hues of the Dyeing Light collection by Daughter of a Shepherd; however, any sport weight or fingering weight yarn could work.
