SAZANAMI means “wavelet” in Japanese. When Midori saw this cable & twist stitch pattern, the first thing that came to mind was a chain belt around the low waist of a mini dress. At this point she knew she had to knit it sideways so she tried to figure how the garment could be worked just sideways, but realized that it would be hard to create side shaping for the fitted body that she wanted. Midori finally decided to work the stitch pattern horizontally and separately to create this simple dress where the focus would be on the pattern stitch. The bottom pleats give movement to the dress.
