Scapulae
Spring time in New Zealand comes with beautiful sunny days, however a biting wind still makes it’s presence felt.
Our girls want to pull out the strappy summer dresses from winter hibernation, but mummy instinct kicks in, requiring a little more cover!
Scapulae is a little shrug specifically for covering the upper back and shoulders….meaning those dresses can make an appearance while still keeping mum happy.
Scapulae comes in 12 sizes, from 45cm chest circumference (approx 6 months of age), up to 72.5cm chest circumference (approx 10 years of age).
The pattern is written seamlessly top down, utilising raglan shaping. The sleeves have a customisable amount of ‘puff’, and are finished as you work the body….which means you can knit this pattern entirely on flat needles, no knitting in the round required!
Scapulae is very economical on yarn - you can knit any size up to a 60cm chest with just a single 100g/220m skein of 8ply/DK weight yarn, and any of the larger sizes with 2 skeins.
Please note, I have a very similar free version of this pattern, called Little Scapulae. It is written in Worsted weight yarn, in just the one size (12-18 months), and has slightly differently shaped sleeves
