Scarab shawl
This design takes its inspiration from the Egyptian revival of the 1920s, which was sparked off by the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
For a more in-depth look at this shawl check out the Video Pattern Tour on YouTube.
Update Spring 2016: As happens, the yarn that I knitted this sample in has been discontinued. Luckily the pattern has proven to be a perfect fit for Anzula’s new sport weight yarn Ava!
This shawl was originally knit in a DK weight Rowan Cotton and then in a Silk/Alpaca blend from Miss Babs (which has been sadly discontinued). What it has shown me is that this is a very versatile pattern which works in many different yarns.
The pattern instructions are both fully charted and fully written. This pattern is of intermediate difficulty with lace work on the right side only that includes double decreases and double yarn overs.
