Scarlet Oak
During the autumn, I picked a big jar of Scarlet Oak branches from our trees to keep them over winter to add happy colour. Within the next few days, I wound up this beautiful yarn - Yarnadelic by John Arbon Textiles (from www.unwindandknit.com ) and began swatching various ideas. None of them really made the yarn (or my heart) sing. I then walked past my beautiful jar with the glowing oak leaves, and suddenly, there was my jersey. Colour-work that represents the order and wisdom of oaks, and speak of different seasons and strength, fell off my needles. And so here is The Scarlet Oak Jersey.
The Scarlet Oak is a colour-work, top-down, seamless, yoked sweater with long sleeves. The yoke is cast on and short rows are worked for shaping. It continues then to be worked down, the increases are worked in the stockinette sections around the colour-work. Once the sleeves are separated, a straight body is worked and 2x2 rib finishes it. The sleeves are placed back on the needles and are worked down with decreases for the long sleeve. Close to the end, there is a section of colour-work and then the sleeve is finished with a 2x2 rib. The neckband is picked up and finished again with the 2x2 rib.
As a little gift, there is a beanie hat pattern also in the pdf, which you may like to knit up the left over yarn in (or use as a swatch for the garment).
