A simple scrappy log cabin blanket recipe designed for leftover DK weight yarn, fingering weight yarn held double, and playful colour choices.

This blanket is worked in garter stitch, one strip at a time. Each strip is picked up along the edge of the blanket, knitted, bound off, then the work is turned ready for the next section. The recipe begins with a centre rectangle and grows outwards, making it easy to continue until your blanket is the size you would like.

It is a lovely project for using leftover yarn from past projects, minis, samples and special skeins from your stash. You can keep it completely scrappy, plan a simple palette, repeat one colour for internal borders, or add little colour pops as you go.

The sample uses Skein Cushy DK leftovers, along with fingering weight yarn held double. The same colour is repeated every 3 rounds to create internal borders, then used again for the final border.

If you would like to work the final border and i-cord edge in one colour, allow at least 1 full skein of DK weight yarn for this. If you would also like to use this colour for internal borders throughout the blanket, as shown in the sample, allow 2 skeins of this colour.
