Scrappy Plied, Two-Night Strand
This pattern is free as a thank you to everyone who was so supportive this week after I opened up on Instagram about some trauma I recently went through. Knitting has helped me get through some very difficult things, and I am honored to have so many new friends in this fantastic community.
Scrappy Plied, Two-Night Strand.
by Corrado Lark.
The Backstory.
The pattern uses one main DK yarn throughout held double with all sorts of yarn scraps to make a beautifully unique scrappy hat!
I give notes to help you navigate color choices and attaching the yarn, as well as instructions on making a big, crazy Pom Pom (and how to attach it). :)
The Needs:
-Us 8 (5 mm) 16” circular needle
-Us 9 (5.5 mm) 16” circular needle and a magic looping (32” or larger circular needle) or double pointed needles for the hat decreases.
-A Large Pom Pom maker.
-A darning needle and 6 stitch markers.
-200 g of yarn:
Color A: 100g/225-246yrds of a tonal or semi-solid DK weight yarn. I used Olann DK and a MadTosh DK.
Colors B: 100g of mixed Fingering/Sock or DK weight, Variegated or Speckled yarn scraps. (at least 2 yards of each color). Either hold the fingering/sock weight yarn double or use a DK weight yarn for Color B. I used approximately 16 different yarns.
-Gauge (Unblocked, so no need to block a gauge swatch):
With smaller needles, 14 st. and 20 rows per 4” of 1x1 ribbing.
With larger needles, 15 st. and 24 rows per 4” of stockinet.
-Final Measurements: 12” length x 8” width. Adult Medium.
