Sea Meadow Shawl
A team sailing back from the North Pole encountered frost flowers growing on the frozen sea “like a meadow spreading off in all directions.” I’ve always loved the old frost flowers lace pattern and wanted to design a shawl with a large central panel of them, so here you have the Sea Meadow Shawl. An insert of the lace pattern reappears near the right wingtip for a subtle asymmetry (but you can leave it out and just continue knitting in stockinette if you prefer). The bottom is self-edged with the lace pattern, and the rest of the shawl is edged with garter stitch to prevent curling and provide a finished look.
This pattern requires knitting lace on both right and wrong side rows, so it’s not a beginning lace pattern. But with a 34-stitch, 24-row repeat the lace doesn’t take long to get used to and the knitting flows smoothly.
A kit for this pattern plus Drops Alpaca yarn in a variety of color options is available at my FiberQuirks shop on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/726135681/sea-meadow-shawl-k...
