You are welcome to join in the September KAL for these socks on the Kiwiyarns Knits group! There will be a prize of some Knitsch yarn for the most creative use of yarn in this sock, and everyone who joins and posts a picture of their finished object will receive a free code for any one of my other designs (current or future).

The Seadragonus socks were inspired by the splendid stories about dragons that exist in literature. In particular, the name for these socks came from Seadragonus Giganticus Maxiumus – a central character in the How to Train your Dragon book series by Cressida Cowell - a series that my young son loves and that we have read together.

This sock is constructed top down. It is worked using an 8-stitch repeat, and a small cable twist every 6 rows. The stitch patterns represent the scales of a dragon – the larger back scales on the leg, and the smaller belly scales on the heel.

This pattern comes with instructions for an alternative sturdy heel which may appeal more to a masculine wearer.

Please note that the cabling in this pattern draws in the fabric. In pattern, the gauge is approx 10sts x 14 rows. If you have a wider foot, it is suggested that you cast on the larger size number of stitches and adjust the length to suit your foot.

You will need 2 x 50g skeins of Knitsch (167m/182yd per skein) for the small or medium sizes. Large will need some of a third skein.

If the yarn you have chosen contains 400m, (Knitsch has a shorter meterage), one skein should be sufficient as long as the leg stays the suggested length).
