Sears Point
Yoked sweaters scream “classic knitwear,” drawing on a tradition that goes back ages and has its origins in many different knitting cultures. Sears Point takes its cues from that tradition and flips them on their heads, working from the top down and focusing the stitch patterning toward the hem of the sweater, where its physical and visual weight helps give the sweater a gentle, flattering drape, and using cables rather than colorwork. A lighter weight yarn—here, Sincere Sheep’s delightfully springy Cormo Sport—makes for a multi-season sweater that easily dresses up or down. The body and sleeve hems are ringed with an array of rhythmic chevron cables that evoke the natural environment—I’ve heard suggestions of mountains, waves, and dragonflies from preview knitters and friends—and that are straightforward and easy to work, while adding some knitting excitement to the end of a largely stockinette sweater. Gentle A-line shaping from bust to hips makes for a highly wearable silhouette on a sweater that will take you from cool summer nights and early fall days through to when the weather warms again in late spring. Choose a bolder, brighter shade for a more playful version, or tone it down in a neutral or a darker shade.

Increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches, knitting in the round, cabling with or without a cable needle, short rows (turn & yarn over).
CONSTRUCTION NOTE
Sweater is knit seamlessly from the top down, using short rows to shape the back neck. Subtle A-line increases shape the body, with still more stitches increased for the final cable panel. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves and knit down, with a similar, but slightly shorter, cable panel finishing the sleeves.
