This pretty lace pattern is really just a variation of Feather and Fan lace, and is suitable for a beginning lace-knitter. Instructions are given for three different gauges, so it can be knit with a wide range of yarns, including your own handspun. A very drapey fabric is achieved by working on the bias and using larger needles than usual for each yarn weight.
This pattern can easily be made as a scarf instead. Just cast on and bind off in the usual way, and allow more yarn, as you will probably want it longer than 40”.

Yarn: Worsted to DK weight, 130 yards (sample knit in Noro Shiro, 137 yards per 50gm ball)
or Sport to Fingering weight, 160 yards (sample knit in Classic Elite Fresco, 164 yards per 50gm skein)
or Lace weight, about 210 yards (sample knit in Malabrigo Silkpaca, 420 yards per 50gm skein)

Needles (straight or circular):
Worsted to DK weight: US size 10.5
Sport to Fingering weight: US size 8
Lace weight: US size 5

Gauge (after blocking):
Worsted/DK weight: 3 sts = 1” in stockinette
Sport/Fingering weight: 4 sts = 1” in stockinette
Lace weight: 5 sts = 1” in stockinette
