Handmade hand towels are a favorite of mine. I love to make them, display them and use them in my kitchen. When 4th of July came around, I knew I wanted one with stars sewn on.
This one starts with simple half double crochet stitches. It’s one of my favorite stitch patterns because it creates a beautiful texture and fabric.
This hand towel is perfect for the kitchen, or the bathroom.
I use my hand towel purely for drying my hands and decoration, but if you use yours to clean up messes, keep in mind, they may stain your fabric.
Materials:
- Worsted Weight (#4) Cotton Yarn - I used WeCrochet Dishie: 380 Yards of Silver, 42 Yards of White, 11 Yards of Fiesta Red and 11 Yards of Blue
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
- Optional, Sewing Pins
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives to Dishie: Lily Sugar n Cream, Red Heart’s Smoothie
Dishie Yarn is a touch thinner than Lily Sugar n Cream - you may need to go down a hook size with this yarn if it’s your choice, though gauge is not essential in this project if the finished size isn’t.
I usually recommend jewelry pliers to use to help weave in ends, as cotton yarn can be quite tough on the fingers when weaving in with just fingers and a tapestry needle. Dishie Yarn is really smooth, and easy to weave the yarn in and out of.
Time Spent:
I had my hand towel done in about 7 hours.
