Selah Shawl
In 2020 I was reading Glennon Doyle’s book Untamed and was introduced to a new word, Selah.
“Selah is found in the Hebrew Bible 74 times, Scholars believe that when it appears in the text, it is a direction to the reader to stop reading and be still for a moment because the previous idea is important enough to consider deeply.” -Glennon Doyle Untamed
As I made this shawl, Selah was the perfect word to describe what my knitting does for me, to hold space and be in quiet contemplation. Especially during a year as hard on us all as the past few have been. I hope this shawl brings you joy, a warm hug, and “pauses long enough to be changed forever.”
Selah is worked sideways with increases and decreases along the bottom of the shawl. You will be creating the fringe as you work by leaving a long loop of yarn at the bottom edge before working the first stitch on each wrong side row. The rows of twisted stitches along the bottom edge will keep your work from unraveling after you trim your fringe. Worked at a loose gauge for the perfect amount of drape.
