Sellwood Bridge is a classy pullover that’s as comfy as a sweatshirt and is sure to become a wardrobe staple.

Sellwood is a quick knit sweater or summer top pattern with an easy cable pattern at the neckline that doesn’t even require a cable needle. As soon as the cable motif is finished, the rest of the sweater is worked from the inside, so you get that beautiful reverse stockinette fabric without purling!

Make it your very own design by choosing sleeve length, hemline finish, and if want to use single or double strands of yarn.

Sellwood is worked top-down, seamlessly, and in-the-round so that it can be tried on as you go to ensure a good fit and avoid unfortunate surprises at the end. The neck is cast on and short-row shaping lowers the front neckline. The yoke is worked in raglan method, incorporating the cable motif at the neckline, until sleeves are separated at the underarms.

After neck shaping and the front cable motif are complete, the remaining yoke, body, and sleeves are worked in the round from the inside (WS) to avoid purling.

Sleeve instructions are included for cap, short and long (or ¾ length). The neckline is finished in simple I-Cord for stability and to set off the cable motif. The sleeves and body are finished in 1x1 ribbing with options included for twisted rib and split side seams at the hemline.

The sample shown uses fingering and laceweight yarns held double; a sport or light DK yarn that meets gauge could be held single.

INSPIRATION: The Sellwood Bridge, rebuilt in 2016, spans the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
