This cowl was designed during the “Sequence Along” hosted by Hands On Knitting Center in Redlands, California. It demonstrates how the stitch pattern changes when you add different numbers of stitches beyond the basic multiple while you are sequence knitting in the round.

Knit from the bottom up, you begin the {k4, p4} sequence over a multiple of 8 stitches plus 4, then decrease one stitch for a multiple of 8 stitches plus 3 for the second section, decrease down to a multiple of 8 stitches plus 2 for the third section, then decrease once more to a multiple of 8 stitches plus 1 for the top tier of the cowl. Except for those purled decrease rounds, you never have to interrupt the rhythm of the {k4, p4} sequence.

This is an easy project. You need to be able to

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit and purl;
  • p2tog;
  • work in the round.

The four stitch patterns are charted to help you read your knitting, but once you get the sequence established in each section of the cowl, you probably won’t need them.
