Sereno
With a balance like the gently rippling sea, Sereno by Frances Othen-Wales brings maritime flair to your needles. The loosely draped sweater fascinates with its sophisticated yet quite easy-to-knit chevron pattern. The calm monochrome section and the narrow cuffs and hem create a nice counterbalance and give the design a modern look. At the same time, it exudes a playful lightness with the straight sleeves, which are wide at the wrist, and the small collar, which you can also wear turned down. The classic colour combination of the Moods tones Blue Whale and Pufferfish of our Cheeky Merino Joy creates a pleasant calm, like the steady sound of the sea.
You knit Sereno from the bottom up, starting with the waistband in stockinette stitch, which is then folded for a beautiful finish. You then knit the body in the chevron pattern in rounds, following either the written instructions or the knitting charts. The upper front and back sections are worked in a single colour and continued separately in rows. The shoulders are shaped with short rows and grafted together. For the sleeves, you pick up stitches around the armhole and, after a few monochrome rounds, knit them in the chevron pattern down to the folded sleeve cuffs. You finish by knitting the mock turtleneck collar in a 2x2 rib pattern.
Sereno is a design from our 2023 collection. In these turbulent times, there is much cause for reflection. And especially the desire for serenity and calm, for light-heartedness and peace. We have therefore named the designs in this collection after this longing, in different languages. The Italian word Sereno describes exactly this state of calm and serenity.
