From the pattern description:  Setesdal is a valley district in the south of Norway. It is the home of the luskofte, or lice jacket, named for the flecked pattern in the body of the sweater. These striking sweaters were originally considered peasant wear for men but have become the unofficial national sweater for both men and women. They are knit in worsted-weight wool of white on black at a tight gauge, making a firm, dense fabric.
