Shadow Dancing
Cooler weather is always welcome both before and after a long hot summer. It isn’t that I don’t love summer, but rather I love wearing my shawls. I am also very fond of colour transitions. When I began my career as a dyer, I was interested in how I could create beautiful ombre yarns. I succeeded with timed dye baths and multiple skeins, The effect however remained striped and not exactly what I was looking for. A year ago, I began playing with shawl and sock blanks. Constructing them, rather than purchasing pre-made fabrics, allowed me to get more creative with lengths, weights and yarn bases. This shawl takes advantage of the colour transitions that are featured in the colour wash blanks, and yet the pattern is elegant enough to stand up to a single colour way choice.
The pattern can be worked with 120-150g. As shown on cover it is worked using one double knit sock blank 400m/100g plus one 20g mini skein for the border. RavensWood Fibre Co. The sock blank was deconstructed to 2 centre pull balls and then worked first with one ball copper to blue, then the second centre pull ball, blue to copper.
Intermediate: Written instructions are provided for chart 1 and the pattern repeat border only. All other instructions are charted
