Shake It Up
I love buying skeins of beautiful hand-dyed yarn, then petting them and staring at the gorgeous colours, but I don’t always love the pooling when they’re knitted up! The Shake It Up mitts feature a slipped cable stitch pattern that is worked without a cable needle and breaks up the colours as they are knitted, eliminating the pooling.
These mitts are knitted in the round from the cuff up, starting with a 1 x 1 rib cuff, then the main body of the mitt features the slipped cable stitch pattern, with a plain thumb gusset worked at the same time. The mitts are finished with 1 x 1 rib at the top of both the hand and the thumb.
The Shake It Up mitts are knitted in variegated DK weight yarn; hand dyed yarns would be perfect. To minimise pooling, two skeins were alternated every two or three rounds, carrying the non-working yarn up the inside of the mitts.
The patter covers four sizes: S (M, L, XL) to fit hand circumference 18 (19.5, 21, 22.5) cm/7 (7.5, 8.5, 9) in.
These mitts were first published in Knit Now magazine, issue 52.
