The Story of Shalvá

My mother has recently begun practicing meditation, and I designed her these ear warmers to help her step into her own world and hold her hair. Shalvá is a term originating in Hebrew, meaning the ‘tranquility of mind’ or ‘mind-calmness’, an effect of single-pointed meditation.

Making the ear warmer itself is a meditative exercise, which creates the beautiful effect of a spiral within a spiral. It can be created in one sitting, in a single piece with no need for sewing. It is a perfect introduction to cable knitting and knitting in the round – simple, quick and engaging.
