At the beginning of season 4 of Fringe, we introduced to a new form of shapeshifter.  These shapeshifters 2.0 are actually human. These spies do not have mercury for blood like the originals. Which is evident through most of season BECAUSE THEY ARE SEE THROUGH! Brain children of David Robert Jones; he uses these human shapeshifters to help him bring about the end of both universes.
