Seahorses, waves, and sand dimples (or flying sea birds?) combine for a sea theme on this stranded colourwork cardigan. The two colourwork pattern repeats are worked over different stitch counts and are not intended to line up. This echoes the discontinuity between waves and sand; the wave pattern is dynamic and moves from left to right, whereas the sand dimple pattern is static and symmetrical.

The modified drop-shoulder design is worked in the round from the bottom up, incorporating steeks for the front zip opening, armholes, and neck. Steeks are reinforced by crochet before being cut. Sleeves are worked in the round from the cuff, ending with a facing to cover the armhole steeks inside the cardigan. It is worked in stocking stitch and stranded colourwork.

The yarn used is Snaeldan 2-ply, which is a fingering/4-ply-weight yarn, 100% wool, knitted to a tension of 26 sts and 28 rounds to 10 cm. The yarn is available from Midwinter Yarns (http://midwinteryarns.com).

Four sizes are given, giving cardigan chest measurements of 85 (94:104:114) cm / 33.5 (37:41:45) in.
