This strong, botanically-inspired cable motif lends itself wonderfully to hat construction, creating tapering leaf tips as you reach the crown! Shelby can be knit either as a close-fitting beanie, or with another repeat added to make a slouch, with extra coziness from Marianated Yarns’ Playtime Worsted superwash merino. Most of the cables in the hat can be easily worked without a cable needle, and Shelby can be combined with any of the other pieces in The Virescent Collection to create a matching set.

This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Playtime Worsted, one skein — 100% superwash merino — 218 yds (199 m) to 100 g. Shown in colorway Emerald City.

Slouch (first pic) used approx. 175 yds (160 m), and Beanie (third pic) used approx. 140 yds (128 m).

Sizing:
Slouch — 18.5” (47 cm) around base, unstretched, and 10” (25.5 cm) deep
Beanie — 18.5” (47 cm) around base, unstretched, and 8.5” (21.5 cm) deep.
Both shown on 23” (58.5 cm) head.

Gauge:
28 sts and 31 rows to 4” in cable pattern, centered over large motif, washed and blocked. (Gauge may seem tight, but remember that cables do pull in fabric significantly.)

PLEASE NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size and amount of yarn used.

Other Materials:
Eight stitch markers (one to indicate beg. of round, three to mark pattern repeats, four to mark slipped sts), cable needle in appropriate size, tapestry needle.

Skills Needed:
Knitting in the round, cabling, ribbing, double decreases
