Shell knitting for bag in German wool
A Victorian bag approximately 6 inches tall and 5.5 wide, it is knitted in 16 shades, from darkest to lightest, using a shell pattern. 3 of the shades are repeated in the rib at the top and the handle.
Actual gauge : 19 stitches and 5 rounds are approx. 3 cm by 0.8 cm - gauge isn’t too crucial, though - a larger gauge means a larger bag, though the fabric won’t be as firm.
Recreated and corrected from a pattern used by Cornelia Mee, drawing on another by Jane Gaugain, and extant examples.
