Shells Counterpane
Also available as part of the 2026 Afghan Club.
Based on a vintage knitted quilt of the same name, the Shells Counterpane is my crochet-version of this classic style. Worked in rows (an 8-row repeat), there is no sewing or seaming of individual motifs. The shells themselves are worked in “short rows”.
Pattern includes a link to a full video demo.
Materials: Crocheted using DK or light worsted weight yarn in colors of choice and crochet hook size H (5.0mm).
Skill level: Intermediate
Stitches used include ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, tr. Hdsl is used for the edging.
Pattern is written in standard US crochet terms.
