I pictured this silky yarn as a fluid, drapey shawl worn for a sunset beach walk on a warm summer’s evening. The shell and chain loop stitch seemed perfect combined with a delicate border to create a pretty silhouette without extra weight.

The individual pattern files are available as separate UK and US terms versions and include instructions for modifications such as adding beads to the edging.

You can use the customised option to make it with different yarn weights. If it is working up bigger or smaller than you want at the tension you like or if you want to adjust the length to your desired style, or use a different sized thread or yarn, check how to customise the length in the “Make it your own” section at the end of the pattern.

Sizes: The pattern is written as one size to suit 400m 4 ply/fingering weight yarn. The pattern is very customisable with an ongoing repeat that you can repeat more or fewer times should you wish to vary the size of the finished piece or work with other yarn weights or quantities.

Tension: 2 repeats of pattern stitch (20 sts) and 2.5 repeats of pattern stitch (5 rows) measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over seashell st using a 3.25mm hook, or adjusted size needed to obtain correct tension.

Working method: crocheted flat, back and forth from bottom to top. Then edging is worked around either side.
