Sheru is really special to me as Tiger is one of my spirit animal. I realized that I love designing baby animal patterns more. This time, I made this Tiger Cub Applique to celebrate the special time in any being’s life. It is childhood which is overloaded with cuteness. All babies are adorable, even animal babies.

This is the first time that I’ve used the technique of painting on any of my crochet works. I used to see dolls with real makeup and always wondered how I could use it too. While I was making this applique, I came across a challenge. The challenge was to crochet the very tiny triangle like features, the stripes of the Tiger.

But even thread wasn’t giving me the look I desired after frogging the applique several times. In the end, I came up with the idea of using a fabric pen. All the black portion you see in this applique was hand painted by me using a black colored fabric pen. Yay! to using one more new technique in my crochet work.

As per the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2022 is the“ Year of the Tiger”. So cheers to this year. In the Chinese zodiac, Tigers traditionally symbolize strength, bravery and wisdom.

Suggested Yarns:
You can use any yarn for making this applique and use an appropriate size hook for that yarn.

I’ve used a Size 10 thread to make this applique. I used approximately 27 yards of Yellow and 9 yards of White thread.

I Used:
Lotus International (India) Red Rose Stranded Cotton(100% Cotton; 42 yds(38m)/0.35 oz 10 g; CYCA # 0): #White, #Yellow, 1 ball each.

Crochet Hook Size:
1.75 mm/ US 00 size steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
