Shikaku puzzles are popular mind games from Japan which are played on a rectangular grid.

Shikaku Shawl is a reversible shawl worked from the bottom up with step-like increases on the side and a pattern of small rectangles made of purl and knit stitches only.

The shawl is worked with approx. 520 yds (475 m) of fingering weight yarn, but the size of the shawl can easily be customised by working fewer or more steps.

Most fingering weight yarns are suitable.

The measurements for the sample shawl are:
Wingspan: 54” (137 cm)
Length: 23” (58 cm).

The yarn used in sample shawl is
Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Pure 100% Merino Superwash, 100% Merino, 574 yds (525 m) per 150g skein, 1 skein col. Oohm.
