Amigurumi Pattern Only!

THIS IS A RE-RELEASE, PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED MY HOBBY HORSE PATTERN.

We love imagination play in our home. Especially Miss Three, who loves running around the yard pretending she is a fearless warrior out to protect the good (albeit, helpless) citizens of her make-believe nation. And we all know, every hero needs a noble and trusted steed!

I originally created this pattern in 2020 and this version was developed for bulky weight yarn. However this time, I thought adapting to 8ply light worsted weight yarn (a yarn which I find more easily accessible, especially in Australia) would be a really nice change! It also creates a more compact hobby horse head, perfect for the littlies ;)

ABOUT THE PATTERN:

This crochet pattern features my crochet Hobby Horses in three different colourways with three different hair options, French Knitted, curly crochet and straight yarn hair. The pattern is in PDF format and 24 pages long. It includes detailed instructions and more than 40 coloured photos to help you along the way.

Available in English Only. The pattern is written in US Crochet Terminology.

DIMENSIONS:

My hobby horses measure approx. 19cm tall and 20cm wide (not including the handle or point of the ears). However, this may vary depending on your yarn, hook and/or tension. To increase or decrease the finished size of your horse, have fun playing around with different hook sizes and yarn. You may want to create a super bulky Horse instead!

MATERIALS:

  • Your favorite 8ply light worsted weight yarn (optional curly hair option may use 10ply worsted weight)
  • 3mm Crochet Hook (a 4.5mm hook also required for curly hair, optional)
  • Polyfiber Fill for the stuffing
  • Wooden Mop/Broom Handle (available at your local hardware or grocery store - mine was 22mm thick and I cut it down to my desired size prior to inserting it into the head)
  • 15mm Safety Eyes
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Thick Cardboard for head base
  • French Knitting tool/machine for optional hair style
  • Tapestry Needle and Doll’s Needle (optional but very useful for sewing on the hair!)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • A stitch marker

DIFFICULTY:

Intermediate to Advanced. The pattern assumes you know how to make amigurumi. There are lots of pictures to help you. However, the pattern has a fair amount of instructions and requires you to make some alterations to account for your broom handle and tension.

PLEASE NOTE:

This is not a listing for the finished toy.

If you intend to give your finished crocheted item to a small child, twice, thrice and quarce check all parts to ensure there are no loose bits that may be a choking hazard. Also reconsider using the safety eyes. No toy is 100% safe. Monitor all play and ensure toy is out of reach when you are not there.

This is a digital file and will be available to you automatically via email from Ravelry when payment has been made.
