While designing the Shíyázhí (My Little One) Sweater, I wanted to incorporate a diamond surrounded by many paths. The diamond, as my grandmother has told me, is a symbol of Dinetah or the homeland. Each point of the diamond is a symbol of the four sacred mountains that surround Dinetah. Since I started having kids, I wanted to create items that not only reflect our culture, but are also a symbol that no matter where they go, what paths and choices they make, they can always come home and be surrounded by a family that loves, cherishes and supports them.
