This design makes use of Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball yarn. Substitution is not recommended as this yarn is unique in its characteristics to the extent that other #4 yarns may behave very differently and alter the fit and drape. This is a case where sideways knitting dramatically alters drape and gauge. As knitted, at stitch size 3 on the bulky the gauge is 5 stitches/6 rows per inch but in wear it changes to 4.3 stitches/7.76 rows per inch. The sizes finish from 34-64” at the bust. In each case, the very lower edge is a bit larger as a result of it being knitted in ribbing which expands the hip size slightly. The sizes are based on the “in wear” gauge so you do not have to adjust for drop. The design really needs a ribber and may be made on either a mid-gauge or bulky machine. A very patient knitter can achieve an almost identical vest by re-forming rib stitches. The design will also be slightly different, coming out slightly shorter and with less of a flare at the hem.
