Silk Road Shawl
This shawl is based on the Silk Road Tales pattern. I thought the design would work beautifully for a shawl – specifically, using half the height of the original motif. To save you the trouble of adapting the blanket pattern, I decided to release a separate version.
Just like the blanket, this pattern can be used for many different projects – a table runner, shawl, ruana, and more. You can easily adjust the size by changing the number of repeats. Each repeat is 88 stitches wide (44 filet windows).
Skill level: Advanced.
This pattern includes diagonal stitches and requires close attention to detail and careful following of the written instructions or charts.
Technique: Overlay Mosaic crochet with diagonals row by row, an envelope border in the round. Interlocking filet crochet row by row, a border in the round.
You require two colors of yarn, color 1 for the pattern (C1) and color 2 for the background (C2)
Yarn: for example, Scheepjes Whirl, Whirlette
Yarn weight: Fingering.
Gauge: 14½ stitches in 5 cm (2”) by 14½ rows in 5 cm (2”) in this pattern.
Hook 2.5 mm. Hook size needed to match the gauge.
● Yardage estimate based on a scarf measuring 441 stitches by 90 rows (a scarf without the border (4 repeats), approx. size 152x31 cm/ 60x12 inches):
approx. 1080 m of C1 yarn, 1060 m of C2 yarn. (1181 yds and 1159 yds)
● Yardage estimate based on a scarf measuring 477 stitches by 125 rows (a scarf with the border (4 repeats), approx. size 164x43 cm/ 65x17 inches):
approx. 1580 m of C1 yarn, 1610 m of C2 yarn. (1761 yds and 2668 yds)
● Yardage estimate based on a ruana, one panel measuring 301 stitches by 125 rows (two panels with the border (2 repeats), approx. size of one panel 104x43 cm/ 41x17 inches):
approx. 1990 m of C1 yarn, 2030 m of C2 yarn. (2176 yds and 2220 yds)
