South Iceland Wool Week invites you to a knit along! The pattern Silla is a modern Icelandic yoke sweater, knitted from the top down with short rows for a great fit. To support our local wool artisans you can order yarn kits from the woolworkshop Thingborg and also from the local mini mill Uppspuni.
This international knit along is a way to meet other knitters as well as the people behind the South Iceland Wool Week. You might learn a new knitting technique but most of all we can all have fun together and dream of better times… and hopefully a meeting in person next year!
In the next weeks we will keep posting kits on the fb-group – and you can also contact the shops directly and order your custom made kit. We are allowing for international shipping to take a bit longer and are planning to cast on together on Saturday 28th November.

Yarn requirements: 2 ply at approx. 100m/50gr. (18sts=10cm/4inches).

This top down Icelandic sweater has a fairly wide neckline and fits best in a relaxed style with 10 cm positive ease. I like wearing it with up to 15 cm ease, a straight body and slits at the sides in the ribbing (optional). Short rows in the back make it fit really well.

The pattern for the yoke is inspired by a handmade glass pendant which was just asking to be transformed into a yoke. The pattern in 5 colours calls out to the fair isle traditions as well as to Icelandic ones.
You can use as few or as many colours in the yoke as you like. The chart is in black and white so you can play with it and use colour pencils to create your very own version.
The blue version uses 5 pattern colours. You can use fewer or even just one pattern colour, which could be a gradient with good contrast to your main colour. Get creative and have some fun with it!
